Eduroam and Network
Eduroam
Please note that Eduroam does not use Calnet!
Staff wireless is via Eduroam service, and is available on A, B, C, and D levels. Eduroam uses a separate username and password combo than Calnet, and this combo will work at any Eduroam connected campus around the world.
To use Eduroam you need a password which may be obtained from the Manage my Wifi Access. You cannot choose your Eduroam Password, you can only approve the one selected for you, or have the system make another selection. Make sure to record your Eduroam password! Once you leave that page, you cannot see it again, and if you forget/lose it, you will have to regenerate it.
For assistance, see Working with eduroam WiFi Accounts or contact CSS-IT at https://shared-services-help.berkeley.edu/new_ticket/it .
Other Wireless Options
- Berkeley-Visitor: Replaces Cal Visitor as the “Open to anyone” wireless network. It is extremely limited in what it will allow, as there is no authentication. The change from Cal Visitor is that you’ll need to re-sign the Terms and Conditions page every 12 hours. Just like a Hotel or Airport wireless system.
- Berkeley-IOT: “Internet of Things”. Berkeley IoT is the eduroam equivalent Wi-Fi access for devices that do not support the username and password-based authentication. Similar to home networks, you only need a password. A device must be registered to a department SPA account to get an IOT password. Please contact Anna Maurer (annam@berkeley.edu) for assistance.
Campus Network
Many campus systems (Fileserver, BFS, for example) are locked to campus network connections only. There are three ways to get on the campus network:
- Wired Ethernet cable (on campus only)
- Eduroam (on campus only)
- Wireless connection + campus VPN (off campus)
VPN – GlobalProtect
The campus provides a secure VPN to all employees. To use it, simply run the program and login via Calnet as prompted. It runs in the background and provides a secure connection to campus resources.
