The Lawrence has three main types of employees. While the overall experience of all employees is relatively similar, there are some differences in performance management, advancement, and certain benefits. You will know which type of employee you are based on your campus job title (available in UCPath or on your hiring paperwork).
- Academic employees at The Lawrence are either part of the Specialist series or Coordinator of Public Programs series. Advancement and performance review within each series happens through case preparation by the employee and review by Lawrence leadership. New and existing employees can get coaching on case preparation in spring. More information about academic life at UC Berkeley is available from the Academic Personnel Office (APO).
- Staff employees make up most jobs at The Lawrence. Staff may be represented or non-represented. Performance reviews for non-represented staff happens through the thrice-yearly Achieve Together process. Represented staff follow a different process documented on the People & Culture web page. Advancement–both in title and pay–is dependent on a number of factors including, but not limited to: employment type, job classification, campus personnel policies, and bargaining unit contracts. For questions regarding advancement, contact Jasmine Lopez (lopezj@berkeley.edu) and your supervisor.
- Student employees assist with essential operations at The Lawrence including guest services, research, administrative support, and other key functions. There is not a formal performance management or advancement process for student employees.
